I thought a good topic that would help myself and others is how players set up their wagers. I am always interested in how people play their Trifectas. I think it might have been Max who had a 5 tier he used for trifectas. Anyway if anybody wants to add to the thread that would be great. Anybody can throw up a 1/2/All and 1/all/2 play but I am sure there are many other betting structures that are a better value. Thanks guys.

I will start with one of my favorites since learning about it on this site. I love to play it when I feel really good about the key. Number of dogs is listed by rank. Since playing this tier my trifecta tickets has increased. Thanks Max. At least I think it was Max.

    1/234/234 = 6
    1/234/2345 = 9
    1/234/2346 = 9
    1/234/23478 = 12
    1/234/All = 18
total = $54 for a really good shot at knocking it down 5x

I have a race going off at BM in 6min using the same setup.
Yep I have used it for years. The good thing about this is you can really load up on the set that’s should run the most and still cover your play to get money back if your main plays do fire. I have others I will post here.

Here is a setup I use on Qs and do very well with it.

    Q Bet Set 1

    1-2345678 -$14
    1-23456 -$10
    1-2345 -$8
    1-234 -$6 x 2 =$12
    1-23 -$4 x 2 =$8
    1-XXX -$6 x 2 =$12
X = Tickets on 3 dogs with the
    Highest payoff/Odds from 23456
    TOTAL —$64

What I like about layers like that is you don’t have to think too much about your coverage because it will be there. What I don’t like is the ratios sometimes. I have talked about this in videos before where you might wind up with one combination bet twice as much as another when there is no way it is twice as likely to occur.

The simplest example of this is when people play an exacta for example

    $2 1/2
    $1 2/1

There just really aren’t many circumstances ever where that bottom option is half as likely as the top. So the math behind the wager is really bad

Yes very good point. I is nice to be able to load the combo you like a little more and still have play on the higher payout dogs.

hey, i know this post is really old. catching up tonight, so bear with me. building wagers is something

i struggle with every day. second keys make me crazy!!!!!! at BM if i can’t isolate a good second key i

use kind of a max short stack. 1-234-234, 1-2345-2345 and 1-23456-23456. this is a $38 wager. the field dogs

    are ranked by pupspeed.

    win

Stacking is usually a good way to do it the more sure you are about the key. And especially if you can toss a dog or more with some confidence

Ive been spot-playing the $.10 Supers @ WD lately. I’m using the following setup (and still trying to fine tune it).

Using an AvgFin column, I take the top dog as my key, using the next 1, 2 or 3 dogs as my second and playing A/A for 3rd/4th place.

so it could look like this:

1/2/A/A and would reverse place & show

    1/23/A/A
    1/234/A/A

I’m still working on my stats but so far I’m winning between 10-20% of the races. Most payouts are $30-$50, but I’ve also hit some $100+

Hi iiicream, I love playing the dimes at Southland. Seems like they pay the best. Seems almost every card there are many payouts over $150 to $300? I have had pretty decent days there.
